As a biological, foster, and adoptive parent, I know how important it is to get our young people accustomed to the kitchen, and I can think of nothing more important or foundational than teaching them how to safely and effectively handle a knife.
Think about it: even the most basic of recipes requires something to be chopped, sliced, or minced, and for students who haven't been properly taught, this can cause a great deal of intimidation.
That same intimidation exists for many Family & Consumer Sciences instructors as well - I know this firsthand because I've conducted a number of knife skills sessions with middle school and high school teachers in my area. None of them are professionally-trained chefs, but they still want to provide their students with the tools they need to be successful.
That's why I've developed my Complete Family & Consumer Knife Skills Curriculum. It's an online course that allows you to give your students the experience of having a professional chef step into your classroom for three days and show them the basics of kitchen knives.
